Granada

Today, we left Seville and drove to Granada. We split up for lunch, free time, and shopping. The students are pros now when it comes to navigating a city all on their own! After lunch we went to the Alhambra and Generalife gardens/complex, one of the main highlights of the trip, for a guided tour. The Moors controlled the Iberian Peninsula for 800 years and Granada was the last city to fall to the Catholics. The Alhambra represents the pinnacle of the Moorish achievements, and of course it was modified and expanded once the Catholics took control. It’s hard to describe it, but some people feel it should be one of the “wonders of the world.” It’s amazing. We left the Alhambra by bus and went directly to our evening events. First we had flamenco lessons, then we ate dinner, and finally we watched a real professional flamenco show! On our way back to our hotel by bus, we stopped at a lookout to take in the views of the city and the Alhambra at night. By the time we got back to the hotel it was straight to bed for all, as we had quite a long day. Tomorrow we head to our final destination, la Costa del Sol, but not before stopping in Mijas for a little fun.
